A moon phase watch, simply put, is a watch that has a separate display that shows the current phase of the moon. A moon-phase complication is a highly desired complication for most watch enthusiasts. The main reason that a person will have a moon phase watch is for show. Many people desire it simply for its beauty.
Often described as the least practical and most romantic of complications, the modern luxury watch moonphase indicator encompasses a broad range of styles, complexity, and artistic approaches. The (usually) blue or black disks, with an elegant gold moon on them, are just awesome to glance at every now and then, especially when the sunlight catches them as you’re driving your car or sitting in your living room. Now look at these romantic moon-phase replica watches for men.
Cartier Drive De Cartier Moon Phases
The Drive de Cartier Moon Phases watch maintains the 40mm x 41mm cushion-shaped case and is crafted either from steel (shown here) or 18k pink gold. Two blued-steel hands glide across the guilloche dial with the classic Roman numerals. At 6 o’clock, you’ve got the moon phases sub-dial. The Drive de Cartier Moon Phases watch features the complication that accounts for the cycles of the moon and is described as “astronomic” due to the fact that it only needs to be adjusted for one day every 125 years. I think if there’s one word that Cartier is striving for in their development of this piece, it’s “timeless.”
Rolex Cellini Moonphase
Rolex introduced the newest model in its elegantly appointed Cellini collection, the Rolex Cellini Moonphase, at Baselworld 2017. The watch features a patented, astronomical moon-phase function (the first moon-phase in a Rolex watch since the 1950s), a meteorite-appliqué moon, and a 39-mm case made of Everose gold, a proprietary alloy that mixes gold, copper, and a touch of platinum, and sports a polished finish. Its white lacquered dial, with rose gold hands and hour appliqués, opens up at 6 o’clock to reveal a blue enameled disk displaying the full moon, the new moon, and a field of stars. The pointer at the 12 o’clock position on this subdial points to the correct moon-phase as the two moons rotate through the lunar cycle. The movement is Rolex’s manufacture Caliber 3195, with a patented module for the moon-phase indication, which is engineered to be astronomically accurate for 122 years.
